Pettus Foundation kicks off first annual Little Rock Game Day, fostering community and youth engagement

LITTLE ROCK (KATV) — The Pettus Foundation is a non-profit organization that works with at-risk youth and those needing a helping hand.

This weekend they took their outreach to a new level.

This was the foundation’s first year hosting the Little Rock Game Day, which included relay races, track and field competitions, and a basketball tournament with a grand prize of $1,000.

“Oh it helps just get us active… Gives us something to do. Keeps the mind from being idle and just a lot of fun. For a great cause,” Pettus Foundation, Owner and Founder Kris Pettus Said.

This weekend was just a small part of the non-profit’s mission to provide meaningful outlets for youth and those re-entering society. Creating opportunities for success and decreasing the appeal of violence and crime.

“The most exciting part of today was everybody came out, had fun… No fights. No nothing. Just you know…Nothing but love here,” Pettus said.

The event was not only about games. They brought in local barbers for free haircuts and a large food give away and provided business for vendors throughout the community.

Pettus wanted to enforce the importance of being a leader of positivity and change.

“Oh man… Once they see one person do it… You know everybody just falls into place. So once you get out and get active… You know…We want 10… 20… 30… People in your community to get out and get active as well,” Pettus said.

With the foundation also built to assist the elderly, unhoused, and less fortunate, proceeds from the event will pour right back into their efforts to serve.

The Pettus Foundation plans to host these games quarterly, each year from now on.
