The Pettus Foundation continues community outreach through mentorship

(Little Rock, KATV) — A local non-profit is looking to expand their outreach to the community through mentorship and volunteerism.

The Pettus Helping Hands Foundation takes at risk youth, returning citizens and others under their wing, giving them skills to use toward a successful future.

“The mentorship we provide here is very important because we are here in Little Rock and we are so overshadowed with high crime rate and we want the youth, and anyone to feel like… We are here to help them they’re not alone. Whatever they need the Pettus foundation is here to assist.” Pettus Foundation, Founder/CEO, Kris Pettus said.

The foundation works year around to provide jobs, volunteer opportunities, and professional development skills throughout the Little Rock community. Some members call it their second chance at life.

“We have guys out here… You know who are truly working for second chances and you have guys like Mr. Pettus that gives us an opportunity to do that. And you know we come out here… We work hard… We communicate…And at the end of the day it’s very rewarding,” Pettus Foundation member, Jordan Bell said.

Helping to make the path to success more accessible dozens of businesses and organizations partner with the Pettus Foundation.

Members worked on homes this weekend with moving, yard work, and more.

“It’s just a good organization that helps people out and gives them a boost in the community and just really over all just… Just really good people that love to help out,” Real Estate Investor/ Pettus Foundation partner, Tyrone Phillips said.

The foundation also played a big role in the disaster relief efforts after the March 31st tornado. Helping those who lost as well as those assisting in restoration.

Now the Pettus Foundation is looking ahead to summer as they fill their calendar with activities, community service and educational opportunities to keep the youth engaged.

The foundation said they are looking forward to expanding and finding the best ways to serve the city of Little Rock and it’s citizens.

“That’s what we try to do is give.., more than we receive and we give with an open free heart not looking to get anything in return… We just genuinely want to see guys do better. Everybody in the community. We want to see an uplift in the community. That’s what the Pettus helping hands foundation is. We want to see people get out here.. We want to see them do better… We want to see them reach for the stars and we want to see them achieve and be successful,” Pettus Foundation member, Markus Kirksey said.

Pettus himself had one final thing to say…

“They better know we coming…That’s all I have to say. We’re coming to take over Little Rock and bring so much positivity to a beautiful city,” Pettus said.
